Saw Operator

Summary of job contents

Cuts and machines rods and barrels for use in the assembly of full range of pneumatic cylinders.  Operates various specialty machinery, i.e. tube cutter, tube deburrer, tube polisher, rod saw, flat press, and roller burnishing machine.

Key accountabilities

• Participates in any and all 5S activities both individually and collectively as required by the 5S Coordinator.
• Based on cut slip instructions, selects appropriate size and type tube or profile from stock rack and sets up required machine accordingly. Cuts material and checks dimensions to ensure accuracy
• Verifies conformance of all components to specifications
• Deburrs tubes and profiles and polishes as required
• Washes tube or profile in cleaning solution to prepare for assembly
• Restocks rod and tube racks as required
• Maintains clean work environment
• Uses various types of equipment, both automatic and manual, to cut profiles
• Ensures cut slips and production orders are organized and remain with the product throughout the process
• Demonstrates ability to follow detailed work instructions and product routings
• Inspecting general appearance of finished product
• Meet production schedules and program production sequences for optimal productivity
• Report any malfunctions or abnormalities and make minor adjustments and repairs to equipment
• Adjust, set up and process operations accordingly

Knowledge and Experience 

• Experience in manufacturing/warehouse environment or equivalent combination of education/experience
• Basic computer skills
• Experience with SAP or similar system is a plus
• Experience reading blueprints a plus
• Knowledge of hand tools and the Metric system
• Knowledge of basic safety standards  and practices
• Knowledge of measuring equipment and machine tools
