Manufacturing Engineer
Summary of job contents
Responsible for product cost in the operation unit. Ensures continuous improvement of series production in less complex (and or with a lower volume compared to other value streams in the plant) value streams. Approves, implements and monitors all product related engineering change processes. Plans implementation of new products and technologies.
Key accountabilities
- Plans and implements concepts for the implementation of NPI/AEP projects
- Coordinates, orders, schedules, monitors and approves operating equipment
- Assures the process capability of the operating equipment
- Initiates and controls the construction and/or procurement of production and assembly equipment, defines the technical requirements and releases the equipment (including process capability)
- Releases requirement and functional specifications for equipment and production concepts
- Plans and designs workstations using appropriate methods (e.g. MTM, EAWS)
- Collaborates with other departments within:
- Q-Projects
- log. Planning
- Layout/area planning
- Investment budgeting
- Selection of production technology
- Applies guidelines for production-oriented product design and aligns solutions with R&D
- Cooperates in the determination of the scope of maintenance
- Provides input for economic analysis
- Decides on all production-relevant releases and other production-relevant gates
- Decision-making and escalation rights for all production and cost-relevant decisions
- Approves logistics concepts (dock-to-dock)
- Leads and/or guides IE-relevant projects (e.g. capacity projects, opt. projects)
- Escalates projects and tasks in case of bottlenecks
- Assures up-to-date data in SAP (work centers, time data, cost estimates, part lists, ...)
- Introduces and implements measures to achieve the agreed product costs and productivity targets
- Collaborates with suppliers, global functions and other departments in the company regarding the optimization of product costs.
- Regular tracking and analyzing of product cost (supported by controlling)
- Plans and implements measures to achieve the objectives of NPI and product life cycle projects
- Assures a reliable and trouble-free implementation of engineering changes
- Implements, optimizes and complies with production standards (e.g. Standardized Work)
- Assures an independent, continuous optimization of value stream production processes and actively supports the best practice sharing and rollouts in other OUs
- Collaborates in the strategic change to the ideal value stream organization
- Introducing new production technologies in OU
- Implementing Engineering standards and KPIs for newly implemented technologies
- Regular communication with other departments in the company. Escalation of information regarding occurring problems when necessary
- Constant communication with (global/ local) industrial engineering regarding new projects
- Often project meetings to check / track the level of target achievement (time, budget)
- Often exchange of information in the company and with HQ/BU concerning questions related to product costs, project optimization/ novelty and realization of innovations in technologies and equipment.
- Periodically communication with internal suppliers of specific equipment and/or technologies to find optimal solutions and status tracking.
- First Contact Person (Single Point of Contact) for Cost Topics to OU Leader and to BU (BU Product Lines) for responsible OU
Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or applicable program, or 3-4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of/experience with manufacturing methods and processes, lean tools and techniques
- Knowledge of/experience with Quality pans and quality audits
- MS Office SAP
