Electrical Certification Engineer

 The Certification Engineer and Master Data Administration Specialist is tasked with ensuring compliance of electrical and electronic products with safety standards and regulatory requirements throughout their lifecycle. This role encompasses implementing safety approvals, verifying technical documentation, managing Product Master Data in the SAP system, and preventing duplication of material masters. Additionally, the engineer collaborates with design teams, assists in defining strategies for product releases.

 

Key accountabilities

 

  • Implement electrical safety product approvals for various electrical, electromechanical, and electronic products in automation industries (e.g., servo motors, drives, valves).
  • Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards (UL, CSA, IEC) by integrating them into design concepts and maintaining documentation for product approvals.
  • Participate in UL and IEC audits, ensuring adherence to safety standards throughout the product lifecycle and maintaining onsite testing accreditation.
  • Collaborate with design teams to develop specifications, evaluate feasibility, and provide consultation for successful certification.
  • Serve as the primary contact for inquiries regarding product approval and electrical safety.
  • Efficiently manage multiple projects, meeting deadlines and promptly notifying supervisors of potential deviations.
  • Verify and approve technical documentation (drawings and specifications) for finished products and components, ensuring compliance with corporate standards.
  • Check and maintain accuracy of Product Master Data in the SAP system, preventing duplication of material masters.
  • Administer technical data to material masters according to internal standards and assist colleagues with Product Master Data management.
  • Participate in defining and implementing development strategies to improve departmental organization and efficiency.
  • Comply with the company’s internal rules, regulations, and ethical guidelines, performing additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Collaborate with design teams to evaluate and enhance product concepts, providing consultation to ensure successful certification and compliance with applicable safety standards (UL, CSA, IEC) while identifying opportunities for process and system improvements throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Engage in the new product development and product change processes, ensuring compliance with CP3.1 "Product Development" and CP3.2 "Product Optimization."
  • Verify and approve technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, and BOMs, while managing material masters in SAP and Windchill.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for inquiries regarding product safety and compliance, effectively communicating technical information to both internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with design teams and suppliers to ensure clear specifications and requirements are understood, facilitating successful product certification and approval processes.
  • Assist colleagues and provide support related to Product Master Data management, ensuring accurate communication of technical data and compliance standards across the organization.
  • Motivates unit members (junior engineers) through his/her personal example.
  • Supports the development of unit staff in their area of specialisation.

 

Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience with product safety standards such as UL/IEC 61800-5-1, UL/IEC 61010-1, UL/IEC 60950-1 or similar.
  • Experience in evaluating electrical schematics, PCB layouts, and regulatory requirements for product safety certification.
  • Minium 3 years of experience with ERP-System (SAP), Festo specific preferred
  • Higher education in Engineering - Technical is required.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office, SAP, and Windchill is essential.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Strong technical knowledge of the systems being worked with.
  • Customer orientation.
  • Ability to work in a team.
