Summary of job contents 

Cuts and machines rods and barrels for use in the assembly of full range of pneumatic cylinders.  Operates conventional machine tools, CNC lathes, Mills and  various specialty machinery, i.e. tube cutter, tube deburrer, tube polisher, rod saw, flat press and roller burnishing machine.  Sets up and operates both conventional and CNC machines in order to produce parts required for standard cylinder lines as well as special application components and tooling.

 

Key accountabilities 

  • Based on cut slip instructions, selects appropriate size and type rod from stock rack, sets speed and length into rod saw and cuts rods.  Presses flat on rod and checks dimensions to ensure accuracy.
  • Based on cut slip instructions, selects appropriate size and type tube or profile from stock rack and sets up required machine accordingly.  Cuts material and checks dimensions to ensure accuracy.
  • Machines piston rods on CNC lathes.
  • Sets up and operates conventional machine tools such as: milling machine, lathe and surface grinder.
  • Machines both rush production and prototype special applications components to critical blueprint tolerances, sketches or verbal instructions.
  • Confers with Manufacturing Engineer for approval on all prototype runs.
  • Verifies conformance of all components to specifications.
  • Uses various types of roller burnishing machines to finish piston rods.
  • Deburrs tubes and profiles and polishes as required.
  • Washes rods/tubes or profile in cleaning solution to prepare for assembly.
  • Assist in rush assembly of cylinders by using various hand tools, assembly fixtures, adhesives and lubricants.
  • Using specialty machinery fastens end caps on cylinders.
  • Tests cylinders using water bath or waterless test station to detect leaks 

 

Knowledge and Experience 

  • High School Diploma or GED and Trade School;
  • Or minimum seven years related experience and/or training
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Seven years conventional Machining  experience and CNC Knowledge. Machinist trade school a plus.
  • Knowledge of hand tools and the Metric system.
  • Able to interpet G –code. programming for Fanuc and Siemens controllers. Knowledge of Master Cam a plus.
  • Capable of writing CNC programs using Master Cam preferred
  • Familiar with metal materials specifications and applicable DIN and/or ANSI.
  • Knowledge of basic machine practices and safety standards.
  •  Ability to use computer and word processing and spreadsheet software.  Knowledge of measuring equipment and machine tools.
  • Excellent oral communication skills. Experience in manufacturing/warehouse environment.
  • Computer experience.
