Application Engineer

Purpose / Mission

Providing best technical consulting and solutions for customer applications to optimize machine performance to maximize sales, to establish technical trust base on high level product technology knowledge in the pre-sales phase

 

Key Accountabilities

Impact on Business

  • Establish technical credibility with customer through solving customer’s problem and needs for Festo acceptance and tangible business opportunity develop.
  • Consolidate customer needs and sales information to spec in Festo products and existing solutions for customers' applications through conceptual design, feasibility test and proposal at pre-sale stage.
  • Propose technically/commercially best fit solution to secure opportunity and to increase win probability through competitive intelligence and industrial norms.
  • Account development strategy develop and implement to High potential customers (Target account) with FSE - account plan joint development.
  • Develop application sales collateral and coaching Sales to apply relevant and effective application at each stage of the sales process
  • Multiplication of application success and multiplication of knowledge, promotion functional solutions and target repeat applications in cooperation with FSE and PMM.

Innovation and Change

  • Ensure new solution & technology offering readiness to serve rapid changing industry technology trends based on his/her designated job area.
  • Continuous application development aligned with EC, TEC and customer to catch up new growth area
  • Establish application database for each industry with global application engineer community and continuously propose best fit solution to customer.
  • Keep competitor information and customer needs updated with FSE and PMM (technology perspective) for competitive strategy develop (Sales, market strategy)

Communication with internal and/or external Customers, Suppliers as well as Third Parties

 

  • Working closely with customer to identify customer’s needs and consult to solve customer’s issue to gain technical credibility.
  • Frequent co-work with CS/TEC engineers for smooth hand over to minimize project risk.
  • Lead 3rd party suppliers to develop competitive application solution which cannot be covered by Festo existing product for big potential business opportunity.
  • Occasional support, initiative, and active part of customer events like roadshow, trainings etc

People Leadership

  • Provide application best fit product & solution training to Festo FSEs regularly
  • Influence FSE to be early engaged at sales lifecycle
  • Influence FSE winning culture implemented through successful business result by value added solution to solve customer’s technical difficulty

 

Educational Background

  • Major in Electric, Electronic, Mechatronics engineering or automation engineering.
  • At or above bachelor’s degree

 

Professional Knowledge and Experiences

  • Proven experience of working as project or application engineer in industrial automation field with focus on Mechatronics.
  • Deep understanding and background of engineering topics including mechanics, motion control and industrial network architecture.
  • Experience with basic programming using at least one type of PLC environment.
  • Experience with secondary battery or semiconductor application will be beneficial.
  • Good understanding of technical decision-making process and buying behavior.
  • Good communication skills with customer to solve technical difficulties
  • Fluent at verbal and written English as business level
