District Sales Manager

Summary of job contents:

Manages sales activities of assigned territory to attain sales growth and market objectives by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.  Should spend 50% of time in Field working with Sales Engineers.  Interacts with Industry Segment Manager and other Industry Segment personnel in a Matrix organization to ensure Industry Segment goals are achieved.

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Coaches, assists and directs Sales Engineers and distributor(s) in sales territories, in order that quotas, and goals are met. Advises in matters concerning sales and advertising techniques. 
  • Spends time making sales calls with Sales Engineers.
  • Assigns sales territory to sales personnel, and monitors closely to ascertain expected sales growth in territory.
  • Participates in sales calls to customers to ensure that relationships are consistent with overall corporate objectives and to monitor performance of Sales Engineer.
  • Analyzes sales statistics to determine contribution towards overall sales/financial goals of the company and to assist Sales Engineers and Distributor(s) in promoting sales.
  • Reviews market analyses to determine customer needs, volume potential, price schedules, and discount rates, and supports sales campaigns to accommodate goals of company.
  • Monitors accounts to analyze customer needs, cross sell products and resolve issues pertaining to product, service, deliveries, billing, credit, etc.
  • Conducts staff/sales meetings, which can include training sessions, performance review of region/branch, developing sales strategies to increase sales individually and within region.
  • Establishes training needs and maintains a professional, trained and motivated staff.
  • Represents Company at trade shows to promote product.
  • Liaison between sales department and other sales related units.
  • Analyzes and controls expenditures of division to conform to budgetary requirements. 
  • Expected to know, follow and uphold company financial policy and objectives.
  •  Assists the Marketing Department in preparation of manuals and technical publications.
  • Receives and reviews Sales Engineers itineraries and call analysis reports and follows up with employee to ensure corporate objectives are achieved. Prepares periodic sales report showing sales volume and potential sales.
  • Provides sales leads to Sales Engineers and monitors results of leads to ascertain which result in "real" sales.
  • Sales Manager should spend no more than 50% of time in office.  Balance of time should be spent in the field developing Sales Engineers, monitoring performance, developing/complementing customer relationships established by Sales Engineer.
  • Additional work hours in excess of normal business hours may be necessary to perform essential duties and responsibilities.  This includes extra efforts required for infrequent or short duration.
  • Travel may be required via any mode of transportation as determined by Company for business reasons such as, but not limited to, skill development, training, customer sites/visits or a company business event.  This would include travel to Corporate Headquarters/Regional (field) offices. 
  • Extensive travel may be required to perform essential job responsibilities.

  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Time Management Skills.

 

Knowledge/skills/experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5-7 years related sales experience and /or training.
  • 2-4 years management experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Computer literate
  • Knowledge of fluid power, electronics and electromechanical engineering. 
  • Solid understanding of Industrial Automation.
