Application Engineer Electric Automation - Barcelona

As an Application Engineer for Electric Automation, you will provide technical consulting and solutions for customer applications to the sales teams, independent of industry segments, with a strong focus on automation technologies. You will take commercial considerations fully into account when proposing solutions, and will hold turnover responsibility but not direct customer responsibility. You will also develop detailed technical proposals for application-based solutions in the pre-sales phase.

Key Tasks:

• On-site customer support for prototype startups to conduct proof of concept, requiring strong knowledge of third-party PLC software, network configuration, and device integration, including product sizing and selection.
• Acts as the main interface to Concept Engineers (Customer/Festo) for pre-defining technical concepts, working closely with technical support engineers.
• Discusses technical proposals to optimize machine performance, with a strong focus on increasing component sales.
• Provides on-site technical product training for customers during installation.
• Supports sales and customers on technical applications, independent of industry segments.
• Ensures commercial (cost of ownership) and technical feasibility of proposals, leveraging deep technical product knowledge.
• Proposes component and system-based solutions, primarily using standard products, ensuring compliance with industry regulations (e.g., Machinery Directive).
• Develops technical solutions, considering all relevant technical interfaces.
• Acts as the technical product expert in the pre-sales phase, collaborating closely with sales engineers.
• Provides best practices (e.g., application notes) for scaling standard applications and documents lessons learned for future improvements.
• Supports ISM and Business Units (BU) by identifying product gaps and providing input.
• Assists with standards and regulatory compliance.
• Identifies and secures projects through strong product and application expertise.
• Supports project commissioning at customer sites, working in close alignment with technical support engineers.

Requirements:

• Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Automation) with 3+ years of experience in electric automation, motion control, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of PLC programming, network configuration, device integration, and industrial automation technologies, including product sizing and selection.
• Ability to balance technical feasibility with commercial considerations, develop detailed technical proposals, and identify sales opportunities.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with experience in technical consulting, training, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
• Intermediate to advanced English and willingness to travel for on-site customer support and training.
